Poop Bag Holder FREE Crochet Pattern

I was looking for an alternative to the hard plastic cases for carrying rolls of poop bags to attach to my dogs leash.  There was just not really anything out there that could withstand the impact of crashing to the ground every time my little dog took off and pulled the leash from my hand.  Or when the little boy dog decided to make a snack of the crunchy plastic :(  Then I decided, why not CROCHET one!?!?!

It took a couple of tries....but after a month of using this one I decided that it is time to publish the pattern on the blog.  It is super simple and would make a great addition to your CRAFT FAIR table, especially if you add a roll of bags and make them up in an assortment of colors!!

POOP BAG HOLDER CROCHET PATTERN

MATERIALS:
Small amount of worsted weight cotton (approx 15 yds, 0.3 oz)
Size G crochet hook
Yarn needle

SIZE: approx 1/2 inch x 3 inches

STITCHES:
Ch – chain
Sc – single crochet
Sl st – slip stitch

You will want to crochet tightly so that the bag does not stretch out easily.  You may need to adjust your hook size to get a nice tight stitch.

Rnd 1: Ch 2, 8 sc in first ch. Sl st in first sc to join. (8 sc(
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around. Sl st in top of first sc to join. (16 sc)
Rnd 3: BACK LOOPS ONLY THIS ROUND. Ch 1, sc in each st around. Sls t in first sc to join.
Rnds 4-7: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st around. Sl st in first sc to join. (16 sc)
Rows 8-10: DO NOT JOIN THESE ROWS. Ch 1, turn. Sc in each sc around. (16 sc)
Rnds 11-14: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st around. Sl st in first sc to join. (16 sc)
Rnd 15: BACK LOOPS ONLY THIS ROUND. Ch 1, turn. Sc around. Sl st in first sc to join. (16 sc)
Rnd 16: Ch 1, DO NOT TURN. (sc, ch 1, sk 1) around.  Sl st in first sc to join.  Finish off. (8 sc, 8 ch 1 sp)

CINCH TIE: Ch 50. Tie off leaving 1-2 inches on each end.  Weave cinch tie through the ch 1 spaces of Rnd 16.  Tie ends in an overhand knot to secure.  Trim ends close to knot.

A standard roll of "poop bags" will fit snugly inside.  Each roll of bags will have a sticker that holds it closed.  Leave this sticker in place until after you place the roll inside the crochet, lining up the sticker with the hole in the side.  IT WILL BE A TIGHT FIT, but will loosen up as you use the bags.  when you near the end of the roll it may try to slip out the side hole, just stick it back in :D
If you have trouble getting the bag roll to feed through the hole, you can just pull the bags through the drawstring opening!!

  1. Would acrylic yarn work fine for this too?

    1. Acrylic yarn will work up fine, you just might see some considerable stretching. Which may or may not be a problem for you. I just designed it with cotton as this was my preference.
